Packing Tips

Decide which items you want to throw away, donate, or sell. This will keep your new place clear of clutter and save you time and money.

Label the contents on the outside of boxes or cartons, indicating the room where they should belong.

Make a packing plan - pack items you seldom use first, and try to keep more frequently used items more accessible, just in case.

Wrap glassware and other fragile items individually with ample padding. You can use packing paper, bundled-up plastic bags, or even clothing.

To reduce any unnecessary risk, it’s always best to carry valuable items, such money or jewelry, with you.

Electronics

Small appliances should be wrapped individually and packed in a carton cushioned with packing paper. Make sure cords are wrapped and labeled.

Breakables

Glassware and ceramics should be cushioned generously with the proper padding. Carefully place these items on near the center of the box. Label each box “FRAGILE”.

Dressers

Make sure all dressers and other furniture drawers are empty. Damage is more likely to occur if your furniture is holding extra weight.

Clothing

Clothes should be left on hangers and go directly into wardrobe boxes. Folded clothing and smaller items should be placed in clean cartons or suitcases.

Kitchen Utensils

Kitchen utensils should be clean and wrapped individually. Durable and heavy pieces should be placed at the bottom with lighter items on top.

Books

Books should be packed in strong, small cartons. Lay books flat in the carton, alternating the spine and open side of the book in order to prevent damage.

Shoes

If possible, pack shoes in their original shoeboxes and place in a carton or at the bottom of a wardrobe box. If not, individually wrap them to prevent abrasive damage.

TV sets

If you`ve saved the original carton and padding material, it’s best to repack TVs with those. If not, pad it sufficiently with bubble wrap before placing it into a strong box.
